CSA Work Exchange Program
Our dedicated and committed group of work exchangers out in the fields, harvesting with the B.U.G. Farmers rain or shine.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE WORK EXCHANGE PROGRAM?
Workshare members commit to working 4-6 hours per week in exchange for receiving a full vegetable CSA share. You will also recieve a home cooked farm lunch at the end of your shifts. It is likely you will spend most of your time harvesting, processing, and packing vegetables. You may also spend time weeding, preparing beds for replanting, or other pertinent farm tasks at hand. If you have other special skills to offer, please let us know.
Our current work exchange shifts are:
Tuesday Mornings: 8 am - 1 pm - CURRENTLY FULL
Wednesday Mornings: 8 am - 1 pm - CURRENTLY FULL
WHAT DOES B.U.G. FARMS ASK OF WORK EXCHANGERS?
Work-exchange members commit to a shift, coming the same day each week for 4-6 hours throughout the length of the season (which should last between 22-24 weeks). We prioritize this position for those who commit to coming the entire growing season. Prior farming/gardening experience is not necessary, but a willingness to work hard with focus and efficiency is appreciated. Also be aware that our bed layout is not very human friendly, and you will need to be physically able to maneuver narrow pathways and carrying sometimes awkward loads of produce. You also need to be prepared to work outside in any Utah weather conditions-be it hot and sunny or cold and windy. Because of the nature of our farm and tasks, we ask that you don't bring your babies, children and pets.
Do Work Exchange Members receive any other benefits besides high quality, fresh, and cash FREE food?
Absolutely! We want to help you achieve your goals – whether it’s enhancing your gardening experience, farming know-how, soil-based radical healthy food activism, or community building skills. As we get to know you and your interests, we’ll gladly share contacts and resources. This is a unique opportunity for hands-on learning about all aspects of innovative urban farming in Salt Lake City. At our farm(s), you can learn about raising loads of vegetables in an urban environment and the unique techniques and problem solving strategies that it takes. You will also have a chance to get to know and spend time with some other awesome, lighthearted folks interested in changing our food systems and affecting our community for the better. Also, as mentioned previously, you will also enjoy tasty, fresh, farm cooked meals after your shift.
